TIRES
The wheel, invented by the Sumerians around 3500 B.C., evolved over centuries into the modern tire. A major breakthrough came from Charles Goodyear, who discovered vulcanization, making rubber durable and heat-resistant. Though he never saw its success, John Dunlop pioneered mass tire production in the 1880s with the pneumatic tire.
Tires play a crucial role in vehicle performance, providing traction, stability, and shock absorption. Made from synthetic and natural rubber, fabric, steel wire, and chemicals, they enhance safety, fuel efficiency, and durability. From ancient wooden wheels to advanced modern designs, tires continue to shape transportation worldwide. |
